Finally, we have arrived in Minocqua. I was able to get up in my normal slow fashion and adjust to the day before rushing out to see something new.
As mentioned previously, I found a little church we could attend nearby. The people were so friendly and the service was warm and quite nice. After the service, they were having their Fall banquet and invited us to attend. If these are average people in Wisconsin, Midwesterners are good cooks. One of the gentleman made a Sweet Potato Casserole that was divine! He gave me the recipe:
- 4 large Sweet Potatoes
- 8 oz Cream Cheese
- Cinnamon
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- Maple Syrup to taste
- Crumble Topping (flour, brown sugar, butter)
Coming to a Thanksgiving table near you…
After church, we needed some gas. Ted struck up a conversation with the guy at the next pump who looked like he might be hunting. The man was incredibly nice and gave Ted directions to a grouse hunting location nearby. He also invited Ted to go hunting with him and some buddies later in the week. We drove straight to the hunting location. Ted shot at a couple grouse, but didn’t get them. I foraged for odd bits and pieces from the forest to use in a craft project at some point – pinecones, birch bark, leaves, etc.
Ted’s hunting outfit is something else!

For some reason, I keep thinking Keebler Elf….
