Chateau de Chantilly

September 7, 2025

Today is a Castle Day! But first, dessert and coffee. There is not a town in France of any size without at least one Boulangerie. We didn’t go to every boulangerie we saw, but one per day isn’t too much, is it?

Now for the castle. Chantilly is recommended for it’s art collection. It is a Big place.

It has wonderful art of all kinds. I think we spent 3-4 hours inside enjoying the architecture, the artwork and the library. We were mesmerized. I could not possibly add all of our pictures. Suffice to say it was indeed a special place.

The captions were in French (of course) but every room had a placard to explain things in English. I think they also gave us a chance to sit and rest. Did I mention this place is BIG?

After the inside tour, we opted to take the cute little train to see the grounds, which were extensive, but not very well kept. There were some wallabies and peacocks.

We ended our tour with an early dinner at the Chateau Restaurant. One of our favorite meals and I didn’t take a picture. (sigh) We had a Caprese Salad and a Chaucuterie Board. Chantilly Cream was invented at Chantilly in the 1700’s (so the story goes). Anyway, who can turn down a chance to have Coffee or Dessert slathered in whipped cream? Aunt Charlotte said it was her favorite coffee of the entire trip. Mine too.
