Rouen

September 4, 2025

We seem to have a pattern going for our adventures. Getting 4 people from 3 different time zones ready to leave the timeshare takes most of the morning. We head out toward the destination for the day, arrive in time for lunch. Eat. Look at things, shop, and then head home. Today’s destination: Rouen. It’s a city. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I don’t like cities. Rouen is an exception! I loved the vibe and the neighborhoods and, well just about everything!

We started as per usual with lunch – crepes.

Hmm. There are no crepes in the pictures. We must have been too hungry to photograph the meal. We just ate it!

The cathedral in Rouen is legendary. We went off in search. The first building we found was massive. Ted said this must be it, how could any church be bigger than this – it’s an entire city block?

This was not it. It’s a government building. It had obvious deterioration – from bullet holes? I don’t know but they filled some holes with legos:

When we did find the cathedral, it was obvious. Ted said it is only the second sight that has taken his breath away (besides me, of course!) Bryce Canyon and Rouen Cathedral probably aren’t usually compared to each other, but I think it might be apropo. Check out the exterior stone fret work. Inside is aweinspiring, but I particularly liked the statues of the saints. Even though they were a little worse for wear, the still showed the personalities the sculptures had intended.

The other two famous sights in Rouen are the ancient Clock tower and the new church dedicated to Joan of Arc.

Next: shopping!

We bought fruits, cheeses, flowers and baguettes. So very french!

Home again to rest up for tomorrow’s adventures.
