On our own in Medellin

January 20, 2025

I’ll admit, we slept in today. We decided we needed a break, to do laundry, and make plans for later in the trip.

Eventually, we decided to go on a gourmet Cassidy food tour. Think: how cheaply can we eat in Medellin? Honestly, I think we did a pretty good job. First we split a fried chicken meal. We had Chicken Breast that was pounded flat to a 3×10 piece of tender meat and fried to perfection not greasy, steamed baby potatos, plantain chips and arepas (a disk of fried cornmeal – totally bland – I don’t get the point, kind of like grits) All for $2.50

Next, ice cream. for a two. A lavish splurge for $4.00 each:

Ted had a brownie with ice cream. Mine was a little like fruit salad topped with cheese and a scoop of ice cream. Yes, cheese. Very odd. Once it removed the cheese, it was a thoroughly enjoyable splurge!

We took a break from the food tour for ted to get a haircut. He got the whole treatment – Haircut complete with gel, etc., nose and ear trim, even eyebrows! He looked like a new man for a mere $5.00:

Next we shopped at the Panaderia (bakery) near our AirBnb for after-dinner cake ($.75) and fruit at the nearby fruit market ($1.25)

After packing up to get to ready for the next leg of our adventure, we went to bed rested and very full!!
