June 17-18: More weather and lots of driving.
Our last leg of the journey took us to the Uintas Mountains in Utah. Turns out I am definitely impacted by elevation sickness. The views were incredible but I really didn’t care. Flowers were blooming everywhere, but I couldn’t even get up the gumption to get out of the car and take a picture. At Ted’s prompting, I managed to open the door and take a couple.

Since I wasn’t feeling so well, we headed down to Logan. Oddly, we figured that was close enough to home, Only 630 miles (about 10 hours pulling a trailer). I guess home was calling loudly!
Wow! The Great Basin Sink, can be some of the most miserable travel on earth! At times, it is just a bit monotonous, with long stretches of desert mountains and dry landscape. At other times it’s just ridiculous. This was a bit rediculous. The wind was buffeting us like crazy. It pulled the top up on our little trailer, knocked over 18 wheelers and visibility from the dust was about 100 feet.

We finished with the windstorm to be greeted by the mormon cricket migration. Nothing is quite as icky as the sound of millions of bugs being squashed under the tires. Ugh!! All of the little dots are bugs about 1-1/2 inches long.

After the cricket infestation, the drive was easy and we ended up home very late at night.
As they say it is great to travel, but sometimes it is better to be home. At least until the next adventure!!
