May 16-17, 2022: A little jaunt north
Since our next destination is only a few hours from Detroit, we played tourist on the way. First stop: Frankenmuth. This little town is all things Bavaria, starting with the “world’s largest Christmas store”. We stopped and wandered around.

It was all a little kitschy, but fun.
Turn about is fair play so our next stop was a few towns farther along. It had the “world’s largest single retail sporting goods store”. I thought that all things big belonged in Texas. Well, Michigan is very much into the “biggest”, “tallest”, “most”, etc. Funny!

Our campsite was in a pretty state park opposite the “thumb” in Michigan’s “mitten”. It was a bit cold and windy, but we enjoyed seeing some good birds. Today’s target bird is a Connecticut Warbler. Nowhere to be found. Still, we had a good time and enjoyed the views of the lake and the lighthouse.

The sunset was awesome, and I don’t use the word lightly. Hold onto your hats, folk!
Wow! Maybe when I was describing birds I just should have said birds are like sunsets in miniature. Pretty much amazing!!
