Maximum Travel Day

Day 5: From Panguitch, Utah to Pagosa Springs, Colorado

We didn’t plan to have such an epic journey today, but it was windy again. Our original plan was to drive a few hours and spend the night at Kanab, Utah. Kanab is an adorable town and someday I do hope to spend a few hours there playing tourist. We didn’t feel like stopping yet, so headed to our next planned destination; Page, Arizona. Still windy, so we stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam Visitor Center and took a quick hike to see a “hanging garden” and continued on:

Aren’t the rock formations amazing? There is more to come! When we left Page, we didn’t really have a plan. We were just heading east and had 2 days to get to Pagosa Springs. At the last minute we decided to turn north and drive through Monument Valley. Good decision, even though there was a dust storm. The “monuments” are really phenomenal. In a few places the dust severely limited the visibility but we still were able to enjoy a few glimpses of the famous views. Ted even got to reenact the “Forrest Gump” run.

Somewhere in the middle of the desert, we contacted Worldmark and booked a couple extra nights in Pagosa Springs. Ted wanted me to have some extra time in the pool as recommended by my Physical Therapist. Camping is hard on a one-armed woman. We were another 4 hours from the timeshare, so we got in about 10:30. It was a 12 hour day with some epic views. We are sleeping in tomorrow!!
