A special day

Day 4: Big trout and Bryce

The wind stopped about 10 PM last night. We woke up to a beautiful day. Of course Ted woke up to the day earlier than I did because he wanted to be on the lake before dawn. He came back to the campsite a happy man, having caught his trophy Tiger Trout. He didn’t take a picture and some of his friends need proof. I thought I would help him out!

After hearing the details of the fish story, we headed to Bryce Canyon National Park. To be honest, I was rather ambivalent about going. “We can go see a bunch of rocks if you want, I guess.” I soon changed my tune. Bryce is spectacular! Even before we arrived at the park, we stopped along the road at Red Canyon to take pictures. The hardest part about today is deciding which of the million images to share.

When we got to the main overlook at the park , it literally took our breath away. Not just a hole in the ground, but the most intricate and expansive landscape imaginable. God’s majesty revealed! We drove the entire “amphitheater” of the park which climbs to about 9000 feet. We walked a few trails, but skipped the rigorous hiking. We did find one hike at the base of the canyon to a small waterfall. The sky was the clearest blue; the hoodoos and cliffs were outlined like the sculptures in a grand museum. Put Bryce on your bucket list!

After a full day of sightseeing in the national park, we drove to the Kodachrome State Park. It is lovely and the hikes would be easy. Someday I hope we can camp there and I know we’ll have a great time. Unfortunately, we were really too tired to explore, besides we wanted ice cream.

Just to enhance our perfect day, we found ice cream at the local store that was half price. We love a bargain!
